The Finzi Quartet was formed under the guidance of the late Dr Christopher Rowland at the Royal Northern College of Music. It has participated in masterclasses with Alasdair Tait, Isabel Charisius, the Endellion Quartet, Gabor Takacs-Nagy, Hugh Maguire and Thomas Riebl, and in 2008 was selected for Andras Keller’s class at the International Musicians Seminar in Prussia Cove.

The Quartet is currently studying in the chamber music class of Mr Pichler at the Instituto Internacional de Música de Cámara de Madrid, attending on a monthly visiting basis. This has been made possible by a full scholarship from the Albeniz Foundation in Madrid. It is a laureate of this years’ 31st London International String Quartet Competition and has given numerous recitals for music societies throughout the United Kingdom, the Schubert Institute, the Bridgewater Hall’s ‘Lite Bites’ Series, and at St James’s Church Piccadilly in London. Having a strong desire to promote the music of English composers, the Quartet feels extremely honoured that the Finzi Trust supports their use of Gerald Finzi’s name.

Recently selected for the Tillett Trust’s Young Artists’ Platform, 2009 sees the Quartet’s debut at the Wigmore Hall in October. Future projects include a collaboration with the Medici Quartet premiering ‘Towards Silence’ by Sir John Tavener with concerts both in London and abroad, an Artsreach Residency in Dorset and the closing concert of an exciting new series at the Louise Blouin Institute in London.  The Quartet is also a recipient of this years’ Tunnell Trust Award and as a result will be undergoing a concert tour of Scotland in November.

The Æolus Quartet formed in 2006 at the Cleveland Institute of Music under the tutelage of Peter Salaff, William Preucil, and the Cavani Quartet, and has received additional instruction from the Juilliard, Takács, Artemis, Tokyo, and Borremeo Quartets. The Quartet will be continuing their studies as the first fellowship recipients in the “Young Quartet in Residence” program at the University of Texas at Austin.

In the fall of 2008 the Æolus Quartet was invited to participate in the Jeunnesses Musicales Festival in Weikersheim, Germany. At the final concert, their performance of Bartok’s Fifth String Quartet was broadcast nationally on German public radio. The Quartet was also selected to be in residence at the Center for Advanced String Quartet Studies at the 2009 Aspen Music Festival.

In the summer of 2007 the Æolus Quartet was the first college quartet-in-residence at the Pine Mountain Music Festival in Houghton, Michigan. Their recording of the Sibelius Quartet in d minor, “Voces Intimae”, and the Beethoven Quartet in C Major, Op 59 No 3, was broadcast on Minnesota public radio. Upcoming engagements include performances in Cleveland, OH, Los Angeles, CA, Reading, PA, and Aspen, CO. In the fall of 2009 they will present the world premiere of Bryant’s second string quartet in Reading, PA.

In winter 2007 at the Musikhochschule Lübeck, four young talented musicians met and formed a string quartet named Philos. The Philos Quartet has been working intensively since it was formed and from October 2008 they study at the Musikhochschule Lübeck with Miguel da Silva (Violist from The Ysaye Quartet) and other professional chamber musicians. In the summer of 2008 the Quartet visited the Zeist Music Days in Holland and studied with Shmuel Ashkenasi (Primarius from the former Vermeer Quartet), Martin Levett (Cellist from the former Amadeus Quartet) and members of Jerusalem Quartet. Philos Quartet is the prize winner of The Possehl Competition in 2008 and in was March 2009 awarded by Lions Club. The Quartet has given concerts in Amsterdam and in northern Germany, including Hamburg and Lübeck, and the following concerts will take place in Mölln and Zarrentin. They are also a part of the “Yehudi Menuhin Live Music Now”, which serves for the community.

The Nordica string Quartet was formed in autumn 2007 under the guidance of Professor Tim Frederiksen at The Royal Danish Academy of Music in Copenhagen. They have had additional instructions from The Alban Berg Quartet, The Artemis Quartet, The Szymanowski Quartet, Trio Con Brio, Gabor Takacs Nagy and Professor Wolfgang Boettcher.

In the summer of 2008 the quartet were invited to participate in Verano Chamber Music Festival in Mexico. Later that year they took part in Jeunnesses Musicales Chamber Music Festival in Weikersheim, Germany and at the Trondheim Chamber Music Academy in Norway, where they played together with the Clarinetist Martin Fröst and the violists Volker Jacobsen and Friedemann Weigle. The Nordica String Quartet has been invited to play in some of the best Chamber Music Societies in Denmark and has also been giving numerous concerts in Sweden, Norway, Germany and Mexico. 

In the summer of 2009 they will undertake a concert tour, during which they will perform at the Bornholm Chamber Music Festival and the Aurora Chamber Music Festival in Sweden. In 2008 and 2009 the quartet were recipients of scholarships from The Danish National Bank Foundation and The Augustinus Foundation. In the winter of 2009/2010 they will be working with The Emerson String Quartet in New York.

The Tercéa string quartet was created in November 2004 in the Conservatoire National Supérieur de Musique et de Danse de Lyon where it is supported by Zoltan Toth and Reiko Kitahama and enters the superior study cycle up from November 2005. Since October 2006, the four young musicians improve with the Artemis Quartet in the Queen Elisabeth College of Music in Brussels and get enriched with the experience of the greatest. United by the same passion, the quartet opens itself to many musical experiences.

In July 2005, the quartet performed live on France Musique (programme by J.P. Derrien) during the festival "Cordes en Ballades" and renews the experience taking part in the programme of Gaëlle Le Gallic "dans la cour des grands" in March 2007. They also are chosen to be filmed by the television of Lyon during their recital at the Conservatoire of Lyon. They appear regularly in concert in Lyon as well as in the region of Rhône-Alpes and also are invited in many festivals like "Les Châteaux Chantants" in Tarn and Garonne, "Les Chants de la Dore" in Auvergne, "Musique au coeur des Musées" in Isère, "Printemps des Sens" in the Gard as well as a concert tour in the Gers organized by Adda 32.

They are prizewinners of the international string quartet competition Léos Janacek in Brno where they win the prize of the best performance of a work by Dvorak. Since its beginning, the quartet is supported by the sponsorship of Société Générale, the SPEDIDAM, Adda 82 and Adda 32. The Quartet received a scholarship from Belgacom.

The ambitious EnAccord String Quartet is one of the youngest quartets in the Netherlands. The musicians, born in The Netherlands and Belgium, are graduates of the Royal Conservatory of Music in The Hague and the Conservatory of Amsterdam. The foundation of the quartet by the then very young members in 1998 was the result of the Orlando Chamber Music Festival.

The EnAccord String Quartet won prizes at various competitions: the National Chamber Music Competition in Almere (2008), the International Charles Hennen Chamber Music Competition (2001, 2005, 2008), and the Princess Christina Competition (1999, 2000). The quartet won several prizes during the final round of the “Vriendenkrans Concours 2007”. In 2008, a special scholarship was given to them by the Anton Kersjes Foundation. Between 2003 and 2006 the EnAccord Quartet studied at the Netherlands String Quartet Academy (NSKA). The EnAccord String Quartet is currently being coached by the Alban Berg Quartet at the Hochschule für Musik in Cologne.

The EnAccord String Quartet is expanding its repertoire as wide as possible. Together with Steve Reich, the well-known American composer, the quartet performed his Triple Quartet. In April 2007 they were selected for and took part in an intensive course by members of the Kronos Quartet and performed in Carnegie Hall.

In October 2006 the EnAccord Quartet realised a concert tour in the “Debuut” concert series and performed in Holland’s most famous concert halls. Besides performances in the Netherlands, the EnAccord String Quartet made concert tours to Amman, Budapest, Genève and Istanbul.
The NMF (National Musical Instruments Foundation of the Netherlands) lent the EnAccord String Quartet four French instruments built by Vuillaume and Sylvestre in the beginning of the 19th century.

Interface Quartet was formed in Hanover in 2007 by four young polish artists. The group is being coached by Szymanowski Quartet at the University of Music and Drama in Hanover.  The quartet made its debut in April 2009 at the Chamber Music Festival “Schubert!” in Hanover. In April 2009 they performed at the “NDR Young Artists Live Gala”, the concert was recorded and broadcast in German radio. Since May 2008 the Ensemble is an active member of “Yehudi Menuhin Live Music Now” scholarship programme.

Members of the Interface Quartet are prize winners of numerous solo or chamber music competitions Krzysztof Specjal (1st Violin) is winner of National Violin Competition “Stanislaw Sersaczynski” in Lublin 1999 (Poland), Student of the Year Award 2002 from European String Teachers Association in Denmark. Tomasz Neugebauer (2nd Violin) is winner of International Violin Competition in Schio 2007 (Italy) and Violin Competition “Lions Musikpreis 2008” in Braunschweig (Germany). Bartosz Sotomski (Viola) is prizewinner of National Chamber Music Competition in Lodz 2001 (Poland). Grzegorz Krawczak (Cello) is winner of Chamber Music Competitionj in Gdansk (Poland) and National Chamber Music Competition in Wroclaw 2000 (Poland).
